Introduction to Fashion Illustration with Angie Rehe

Angie takes you through the basic principles of fashion illustration, the different materials that can be used, the classic techniques and short cuts that you can use to create fluid and imaginative fashion illustration. This is suitable for people who haven’t picked up a pencil since primary school and those with some drawing / fashion illustration experience. $110

Plein air vs. Studio painting Ron Reynolds

Here is a Chance to explore two approaches to landscape painting in the one workshop. The morning session will be spent painting on a selected site in Eltham. Before departing the site, a drawing of the same motif will be completed to be used as stimulus for the “studio work” in the afternoon. Composition, line, colour, shape and surface will be discussed along with the issues related to copying versus composing. The outcomes may surprise you. $110

Landscape painting Joseph Attard

Joe guides you through the steps for creating atmosphere and light in the landscape and creating aerial perspective in both colour and tone with oil paint. $110

Rembrandt’s portrait painting techniques Michael Mark
28th and 29th April 10 – 4.00pm

Explore the techniques of Rembrandt’s portrait painting – how the grounds were applied and how the paint was made and how Rembrandt approached the portrait. Participants have the opportunity to work from their own reference image or one provided by the instructor. Additionally, participants might work from a mirror or bring in their own model. (To be discussed with Michael) ($20 material fee) $220

Michael spent a year in Amsterdam studying 16th Century Dutch painting techniques and has taught this workshop at Anderson Ranch, Colorado, Brisbane Art Academy and the Brighton Arts Society. He regularly teaches at Tertiary institutions in Melbourne.

Pattern in watercolour Ev Hales

Painting nature in oils Robert Knight

Working form photographs of trees, the sky, water etc, Robert will discuss how to paint avoiding the pitfalls associated with using photographic references. He will also discuss technique, composition and paint application using a limited palette for colour mixing.

Botanical art with Terry Napier

Botanical art is one of the oldest watercolour genres and held in high esteem by all who appreciate art and natural science. Learn the essential botanical illustration techniques with this very popular and experienced botanical artist and teacher. $110

Drawing with Precision Michael Mark

In this two-day workshop students will be challenged to hone their observational drawing skills through specific lighting scenarios and the employment of traditional drawing materials including the use of toned paper and silverpoint. Frequent demonstrations will be given that are designed to assist in the depiction of forms. Several still-life set-ups will be prepared for different exercises. Students will leave the workshops feeling more confident in their abilities to observe from life. $110

Portrait painting Joseph Attard

Teaching by demonstration, Joe will show students using time tested classical methods of creating a portrait. The workshop will cover how to plan and prepare a portrait, how to setup lighting, composing, underpainting-coloured grounds, textures, how to get the eye to look at you. Painting will be from a live model. $220

This is an individually tailored class for students in either painting or drawing. Bring your usual drawing or painting materials and a project or particular aim and Michael will customise your project so that you achieve the skills and end result that you set out for. All approaches and skill levels catered for.
