Phillip is a skillful, experienced tonal painter who is inspired by a variety of subjects found in the natural and man made landscape.  His subjects have national and local appeal.  He applies paint thickly on canvas, his brushwork fluid and confident.  In well-structured compositions colour plays an important role in creating form or a focal point.  His uses colour particularly, and expressively, in portraiture and figure paintings to capture the essence of the model’s attitude or pose.
