Anthony Williams

15th September- 3rd October 2010

Exhibition Opening: Sunday 19th September 2:00-4:00pm

The Light Factory Gallery is delighted to present Anthony William’s first solo exhibition. It is very fitting that the gallery in its beginning stages, should feature such a  fine young artist at the beginning of his career.
The arrangement of this exhibition follows a narrative sequence of ‘progressive clarity’. It is not necessary to view the paintings in order, as each work stands alone, but it is intriguing to contemplate the works within their narrative context. Clouds are used as a metaphor to explore life’s journey from the tumultuous emotions of adolescence to the calm stability that arises with maturity. The exhibition is grouped into three series. Each series has a different viewpoint with the first series viewing the clouds from below with an oppressive perspective.  Adolescence is explored. Life is unpredictable and confusion reigns. The future is unclear and the way ahead is difficult. The second series has the viewpoint of looking across at the clouds.Instead of the tension and chaos, glimpses of order begin to appear.  There are lucid moments which give flashes of satisfaction and joy yet some instability and stagnancy remains. In series 3, the viewpoint is from above the cloud line and there is a sense of balance and confidence. Maturity has replaced obtuseness with clarity and there is a sense of enlightenment and contentment.
Take some time to fully enjoy these painting. They deserve considered contemplation.
