The Light Factory Gallery is proud to host a fundraising evening on behalf of the Freedom Foundation in support of Maiti Nepal. The exhibition is comprised of wooden sculptures, Tibetan tiger rugs, pottery animals, carved wooden doors, prayer wheels, embroidered wall hangings, prayer flags, hand beaded purses and bags, books, felt shoes and bags, etc.
Pronounced “mighty,” the word maiti has no exact English translation but loosely translates as “mother’s home,” referring to the family a girl is born into. The word is particularly sentimental for married Nepali women as once she is married to her husband she no longer has rights to her parents or their property and may never see her own family again. Maiti Nepal represents the safety, security, respect and, above all, home that every female deserves.
Maiti Nepal is an organisation created by the former minister for women and children in the Nepali government, Anuradha Koirala. Maiti Nepal is an organization fighting to end human trafficking of young girls in Nepal. On top of prevention, Maiti Nepal rescue, rehabilitate and then reintegrate the survivors of sex trafficking back into society.

Portrait Painting Workshop with Ron Reynolds
Saturday 13th November 10.00am -4.00pm

‘Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.’ Oscar Wilde
Producing a portrait painting is one of the more challenging subject matters for artists. Not only is a physical likeness expected but some sort of psychological insight is also anticipated! It can be an intimidating procedure.
Ron Reynold’s approach to teaching portraiture breaks down this barrier and encourages the student to go beyond ‘getting a good likeness’ by exploring the methods employed by artists like Modigliani, Matisse, Dix, Jawlensky, Picasso, Roualt, Vuillard, Dubuffet and Soutine. In this workshop, Ron will analyse the methods these artists used as a way of liberating your own unique expression. This is not a traditional approach to portraiture and it is for painters with some experience and a sense of adventure.
Requirements:
Four 12″ X 16″ canvas/boards/suitable painting paper.
Images for the workshop will be made available by Ron.
BYO Lunch (or lunch can be purchased at the Tea House)
Your painting equipment (any medium) or collage materials.Cost: $65. Limited to 15 participants.
